Slim down and improve your health in no time — it all starts with a dip in the pool.
Sarah Crow

“Oh yeah, that's the stuff!” my friend, Melissa exclaimed as she dipped her foot into the cool water of the newly-opened outdoor pool at our local health club.

The sun was blazing, the air thick with humidity, but in the water, it was perfectly cool and comfortable, the ideal antidote to what looked to be another scorching summer.

“Race me!” she shouted, excitedly. Just seconds later, she had launched herself off from one side of the pool and was rapidly outpacing me as she neared the painted concrete lip on the opposite side.

When I caught up to her on the pool’s other edge, she stopped for a minute, a sad look coming across her face.

“What’s up?” I asked.

“I just wish I could find something I liked to do at the gym as much as I love getting in the pool. I just get so sick of hitting the treadmill all the time,” she said.

“Why don’t you just make swimming an all-year activity, then?” I suggested. “Plenty of gyms have indoor pools you could use when it gets colder, and you can burn almost 600 calories an hour just swimming freestyle. Even better, just like the 42 Low-Impact Exercises That Will Slim You Down, swimming is easy on your joints, great for your heart, and can even get your cholesterol under control."

“No time like the present to start, right?” she asked.

Before I had time to respond, she had taken off, already well on her way to winning another race. Find out why hitting the pool might just be the best decision you make for your health by discovering the 41 Reasons to Make Swimming Part of Your Fitness Routine!
